ZoneAlarm Issue with T43

#1 Post by amensi » Wed Jan 11, 2006 9:04 pm

Hi,

Does anyone get the same problem as we do here. Once you install ZoneAlarm 6 in the T43, it takes like 20 minutes to load in windows.

Thanks guys

It isn't an issue with the T43, it is an issue with the ZoneAlarm software. Right now, I have to wait 5 minutes on my desktop till ZoneAlarm opens and Windows continues the rest of its startup process. If anyone knows how to resolve this issue, it would be greatly appreciated!

I gave up on ZoneAlarm for other issues. I have been using Kerio for about the past 6 months, and I like it better. It has not given me any problems. They offer a free version and a full version simular to ZoneAlarm. Checking the site just now, the full version price dropped from $45.00 to $19.95, with an introductory offer of $14.95 until March 31st, 2006, and a subscription renewal price of $9.95/yr.

http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm
Sunbelt Kerio wrote:Here is a quote from PC Magazine's reviewer Neil J. Rubenking who said: "Kerio Personal Firewall 4 was the best in this roundup. Its users can choose moderate program control with no pop-ups, or unusually powerful protection after an initial spate of pop-ups."

CNET's Jason Parker said: "Your PC needs a firewall. Kerio Personal Firewall is another solid firewall program that provides protection similar to ZoneAlarm's. I like how this program essentially "fingerprints" trusted programs so that Trojan horses that impersonate other programs have no chance of squirming in. Kerio Personal Firewall has both paid and free versions like ZoneAlarm does, and the free version works great."

The Kerio Firewall used to be $45.00, but now that Sunbelt has acquired it, the list price has gone down to the "no-brainer" level of $19.95. But wait, it gets better. Until March 31, 2006 you can benefit from the Special Intro Offer and get it for just $14.95 with an unconditional 30-day money back guarantee, immediate online delivery, and toll free tech support. No other product gives you that. Isn't it great to call for tech support and talk to a live human being in the U.S.?!

ZA not starting immediately after boot-up sounds like a general Windows problem to me...

FYI, I've been using the free edition of Zone Alarm for past 3 years and never had this problem you've decided...

perhaps it's time to re-install Windows and hope this goes away!

(You did burn Product Recovery CD's, right it?)

I didn't have problems with ZoneAlarm except when I was using my cell phone for internet access. I would get unexpected shut downs. This would happen even after a fresh install. When I was home and using my WiFi, ethernet, or dial-up access on my ThinkPad, ZoneAlarm worked OK. I did have an older version of ZoneAlarm that worked OK, but none of the last several releases (as of 6 months ago) would work properly. On my desktop PC ZoneAlarm gave no problem.

EDIT: Here is the thread where I described my problem in more detail.

Thanks all for your great comment. I will give a try to kerio because this is not a windows problem. Brand new T43 and as soon as i remove it boots up normal. I run a 350 users network all with ZA pro 6 and our T43 are all causes this problem...

Thanks,

I found that turning off the program protection fix the problem. Leave windows firewall open so it still monitors applications.

Good Luck !

adding more memory should help. i remeber a system was crawling with firewall and av under 128 ram but problem disappeared until 512

also you should be using sygate firewall, as zone alarm is horrid and not a true firewall. ZA is a syninoum or however you spell it to AOL Browser

i tryed using sygate and i hate it, not only it was unfriendly to my but it also made my computer much slower

i found a link so if anyone is interested there is list of firewalls with ranking which you can use as alternative
http://www.firewallguide.com/software.htm

but so far ZA performed better when any other programs installed on my friends pc's

I'm also experiencing this lag with ZoneAlarm on a T23 with 256mb of RAM, fresh install of Windows. It's not an issue on my T30 (1gb of RAM), but I don't accept that it can purely be down to the RAM/processor. I think I will give Kerio a go!
