Keyboard removal?

#1 Post by mrbjr » Wed Jul 14, 2004 2:07 am

I have been searching past posts where someone mentioned how to remove the keyboard with a little more clarity. I must be getting blind 'cause I know it's here somewhere. Any help please. Just called IBM and they are sending out a replacement for one that was scratched up on delivery. QC :?: T42p 15". Apparently a lot of people have been calling in for replacements according to my tech rep., so it is back ordered. The one I have works fine so I can wait :|

Go to the IBM.com site, search for the Hardware Maintenance Manual, download the PDF file and it's all very well explained within...indeed, you can virtually rebuild the entire machine based on the info and diagrams.

Edit:- I don't know why I'm doing this...

I don't know why you're doing that either.

From the FAQ at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=1689

8) How do I get this thing apart?

Aside from all the links given and help in this forum, I just want to give a word of encouragement :)

I replaced my palm rest yesterday and I had to remove the keyboard. You only need to take 4 screws (At least in the T40p) and it really is a snap.

You'll have no problems...

Thanks all. I had already d/led the manual, and I'm sure it will work out OK. It was just that someone wrote that it was a bit more difficult than the manual would have you believe. Just wanted to be sure I did not pull when I should have pushed

Ian and I discussed this offline, and I apologized for sniping at him while trying to point out that we do, indeed, have a FAQ that answers many questions like this. I believe we are in perfect harmony again.

Maybe something got lost in the translation. All I was trying to do was find an existing post where someone posted a little more detail on rewmoving the keyboard. I have d/led the manual and read the FAQ's :?

No sweat - the only 'problem' often seen on these fora (!) is that people tend to ask before doing a search - in some respects this is reasonable in that perhaps they're new here and don't know how things are generally organised.

What Nonny quite rightly tried to point out is that answers to the most commonly posed questions are available, for the most part, on our in-house FAQ - having some little experience with the HMM I simply left the link for you - perhaps it would have been better to have linked you to the FAQ - better for you in that you would have seen that it exists, and also just how useful it could be to you.

Don't be discouraged from asking questions - you'll answer some yourself if you pass time here - every little bit helps.

Nonny, as most of the other long time members, is a mine of useful information. For my part I know a fair bit about Fiat Unos...

Ian, really don't want to beat this 'ole dead horse any more, but  the original question was in quote. the operative words are " little more clarity". I do understand the rest of your thoughts though.
