Taking it back for an exchange :(

#1 Post by smakdown61 » Wed Jul 14, 2004 9:54 am

Once i get the new laptop (assuming it doesn't have the keyboard problem as well) I would like to try and use the backup from the old computer and load it onto the new one, thus saving me time and effort from reinstalling everything. Do you think this would work even though its not the same computer (but same EXACT model, just a replacement)?

Sorry to hear that.
However it is silly to exchange the whole laptop for a minor defect that can get fixed so easily. To obtain a new laptop is not a guaranty that will come whit a better keyboard. However, to ask IBM for a Keyboard replacement, remove 4 screws and exchange the keyboard it is a far better solution, no to mention the time and hassle you will safe.
One more reason is that when I will adquire a T62p, I will have to cover the expenses of all those unnecesarily retourned laptops
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

I agree, that's silly. I'd be more worried about the LCD display having dead/stuck pixels than the keyboard. Keyboard you can replace through IBM.

What I meant with a more expensive T62p, is that we all will end up paying in a near future for the cost of the current unnecesarily retourned ThinkPads.
Get the laptop you pay for (and for $3000 one it should be the best), but do not abuse the system by replacing the whole laptop when you JUST need a keyboard. IBM cannot resell these laptops as new anymore!

Yeah thats exactly what i told my parents, thats its an easy fix. Just found out though they won't exchange it and that ill have to deal with ibm anyway. So i guess ill just get a new keyboard. Well now i have this 10GB backup file that i don't want on there...is there anyway to delete it?
