Yes and no.

Yes - I have clients with Port Replicators, and they leave the adapter plugged into the wall and into the Port Replicator 24 hours a day. They generally remove the ThinkPad nightly or more frequently. No problems have come from this practice.

No - I personally unplug my adapter at the end of the day. There were recalls of adapters for the 2611-410 ThinkPad i-Series as the adapters were fire hazards if left plugged in. I had two of those (my daughters used them in University). I still have that concern and unplug my adapter, but my concern is probably not well-founded.

I have mine pluged for 4yrs and still no problems. Technically speaking there is not problem at all.
If you are concern on safety, well... think in your TV, or a radio set, or many other devices we have... these are plug too (in modern devices, the adaptors are always running) and yes, they are more harzarous than no adaptor plug, but only marginally.

However, unpluging adaptors is a good practice but for different reasons than those that we are thinking. For having multiple adaptors unnecesarily plug (when no running the device designed for), the average US household is wasting $20-$40 in wasted energy... no to mention the enviroment!

I leave my 3(!) adapters plugged in all the time. I'm too lazy to relocate one when I want to use my laptop in a different location.

They do get hot when they are plugged in with no machine attached - so they are burning at least a few watts. Probably uses 2-3 KWh/month or so. It doesn;t seem to otherwise hurt them though.

Slightly off topic, but....

Is there a travel AC Adapter for the T-series?

good question below, G.. my answer was much to abrupt and assumptive... I assumed he meant only smaller (and I don't think they get any smaller than we all have)... thanks for expanding.....

Cjsuh,

What do you mean by "travel"? Do you want a smaller adapter or an adapter that has DC connector? Or maybe an adapter that has different power plugs (for overseas countries)?

Regards,

Sorry, I mean a smaller AC adapter. Something that might be a little easier to pack up and take along with you than the one that comes with the machine. Perhaps, even something with a retractable cord or other space-saving features...

Back on topic..........

I left my 600E plugged in for the best part of 4 years. In theory this shouldn't have harmed the computer but (again, theoretically) should have shortened the battery life. However, the battery appeared to last as long as anyone else's (3+ years before losing most of its capacity).

I leave my current laptops plugged in all the time still.
