Buffer underrun?

#1 Post by dclee012 » Wed Jul 14, 2004 12:47 pm

re: t42, cdrw/dvd drive (UJDA755y, speced at 24x12x24x 8x)

does anyone experience 10-20 buffer underrun warnings at 24x? the disk is written sucessfully but 10-20 underruns occured. at 16x, there are none. is this normal? i tried on another identical t42 w/ 1gb ram (instead of 768mb) and it was flawless.

it's possible that the hard disk which is possibly 4200rpm can't keep up with the 24x burn speed but that's unlikely, disk fragmentation could be another cause or other software that you've got running.

The thing is, buffer under-runs aren't a problem with modern cd-writers because they can resume from their previous position once they've got the data, although having to burn at 16x might be a mild inconvenience, it might take less time because of the lower number of errors.
