strange video problem with T40+mini dock

#1 Post by simonchen » Sun Jan 15, 2006 1:16 pm

Hi Guys,

I am using T40-PA3, with ATI7500 video card. I also have an IBM mini-dock, which has a dvi output.

I just bought a Dell monitor Fpw2005, whose resolution is 1680*1050.

When I am using the analog output of either T40 or the dock, the monitor could successfully display the right resolution.
However, when I try to use the dvi output of the dock, there's something wrong. Though I could specify the resolution to be 1680*1050, the actual resolution on screen is 1280*1024. My desktop size is still 1680x1050, so what I see is only part of my desktop.

Is this because of the limitation of the dvi output on the dock or my video card? Any one has met this problem before?

Thanks a lot!

It is a driver's limitation, I believe the modded Ati drivers bypass this problem. Search the other 1 million threads on this topic, you should find your solution in there :)
760XL, 560, 560E, 570, 600, 600E, 600X, T20, T21, T23, T40, T41p, T42, X20, X23, X24, X31, X60s, X60T, X200s. I should *really* get a cheaper hobby...

Thanks a lot for the hint.

I solved the problem by using the driver from:

I am now using 1680x1050, and dvi output is much better than vga :-D
Thanks again!
