T43/Intel wireless 2915abg/WPA-PSK = no IP
T43/Intel wireless 2915abg/WPA-PSK = no IP
Hi:
Here is my setup:
T43, intel wireless 2915abg with driver 9.0.1.21, dlink DI-624 with WPA-PSK/TKIP connection,IBM Access ver. 3.71,
I've search the forum and there is a lot of discussion about Intel 2915abg card is a bad combination with linksys. But I have a Dlink 624 router here at home.
I can't get the a dynamic ip with this card/router combination when i set the connection method to WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption. It just simply can't get a dynamic ip. I've set the power save option to "low" and play with all the setting with the driver that comes with the laptop.
The funny thing is that I have no problem connection to wireless in my company which uses WEP encryption.
The funnier thing is that, if I am at home. I plug in my LAN line and all the sudden I will get the IP for wireless card with WPA-PSK setting and then it will work fine even if I unplug my LAN line. However, if I just boot up my computer and did not plug in my LAN line, it will complaint about DHCP server is not giving it a IP address.
I've also try installing the latest and greatest IBM access connection software without much luck?
Can someone help me? This is really getting annoying!

I don't know the cause of your problem, but you can set your TCP/IP settings manually. Look at what they are when you have a successful connection, and write the settings down. Right-click on your wireless adapter in Network Connections and choose properties, then highlight TCP/IP and choose properties again. From there you can set your IP address, default gateway, subnet mask, dns addresses, etc. If your dns addresses are set manually, then your wireless adapter doesn't need to get them from the router.

GomJabbar,
Thanks for your quick reply, but that doesn't really solve my problem. I do want to use the laptop wherever I want. I've been to other places that has the same setup as I do at home and I can't connect to it. Moreover, I don't see the point of setting static ip for my wireless connection since that's not a really "mobile" solution.

The idea is to create a profile for your home connection, and create another profile for when you are out on the road. Both profiles are stored, and you just choose which one you want to use. You can create as many profiles as you like, each with their own setups. Automatic location switching will switch locations for you 'automatically', when the default location is not found.

GomJabbar,
I know what you mean, but this solution seems like it is working around the problem, no? I "should" be able to get a dynamic ip whenever DHCP is available, I have other deskstop at home that is using the wireless and they have dynamic ip address without problems.
I think it is a driver problem from Intel.
If I change my encryption to WPA-PSK/AES, do you think it will work?
Any suggestions?

WPA-ENCRYPTION
Well.. Try using the newest AC 4.01 along with the newest driver as ZeitGeist advices ..
