Upgraded my hard drive ...

from the 80GB Toshiba that came with my T43 to a non-IBM Hitachi 7k100 100GB.

Put the 100GB in the Ultra Slim HDD adpater and used Acronis True Image to back up on the OS on the Toshiba and then transfer it to the Hitachi.

Swap drives (that is, put the Hitachi in the primary slot [pull out the thing on the near right-hand side]).

Boot back up. I was worried about the drive letter. The Hitachi had been D: and everything in the Registry is pointed to C:, but this didn't prove to be a problem. The Hitachi, once in the primary slot, remapped itself automatically to C:

I get the 2010 error but Esc and continue. I have the 1.24 BIOS and when I get around to it, I'll set the thing in the BIOS to pass over the message.

Trying out a lot of apps. They all work.

Except one. Thinkvantage Software Installer.

Hmm [censored].

Error messsage is:

"This program is for IBM/Lenovo system only".

Looked around the forums and didn't find any references.

I'm checking c:\ibmtools, c:\drivers etc and can't find the Thinkvantage install kits.

My hope is that I can simply reinstall Software Installer and I'll be good again.

But maybe not.

I can't imagine that others haven't encountered this before?

After yet another reboot (the 3rd I think) this, and another problem or two I found in the meantime (all producing the same IMB/Lenovo system err message), have all disappeared.

It was interesting, but now it's gone (I hope).
