T42s ship with PC2100 memory???

Hey Folks,

I just looked up my machine info, and noticed that IBM put PC2100 memory in my notebook.

38L4903 31P9833 512MB PC2100 CL2.5 NP DDR SDRAM SODIMM F YES

Looked it up here:

What I'm wondering is, on their website, my 2379-DXU is posted as having:

System memory
Memory (RAM) std/max[8] 512MB / 2GB
RAM slots total 2 SODIMM
RAM slots available 1 SODIMM
Memory speed 333 MHz
RAM type DDR SDRAM
Module specifications PC2700

What's up with that? Should I call IBM?

It's a typo. It appeared on mine too. If you search IBM website using that FRU number, it shows PC2700.

There have been so many typos and inconsistencies between the online documentation, Hardware Maint Manual, TABOOK, etc on the IBM site since the Dothans were launched, you can't always believe what you read. Start with the TABOOK which lists PC2700. Then, if you really want to know, either run a utility like SiSoft Sandra to have it read what the memory is, or take out the four screws holding the keyboard in, pop up the keyboard and physically examine the memory. It will have a sticker right on top of the SODIMM that tells you the memory speed and timing and serial number. That will trump anything IBM posts online, or what some sales/support lackey has to say about the issue.
