Rescue media or Recovery disks?
In Win XP Pro I ran "Create Recovery Discs" and produced 2 DVDs--"IBM Rescue and Recovery" and "IBM Product Recovery Disc".
Next night I ran "Create Rescue Media" and produced 1 DVD--"IBM Rescue and Recovery" same name as other process.
Are these 2 discs with the same name the same thing, or different? What would I do with them? I find the documentation about this less than clear.
Thanx.
Tom

IBM Rescue and Recovery is a startup disk with IBM's rescue and recovery operating system. IBM Product Recovery Disc contains all the programs and such to restore your system to factory fresh specs. You can only create one Product Recovery Disc but as many R&R discs as you like. If you wish to restore your system to the way it was when brand new, run the Rescue and Recovery disc, select the option to restore your system, then it will prompt you for the Product Recovery Disc. Keep them in a safe place.

I guess I have 2 of the R&R discs, to store in different places.
Related--is there a backup facility in Access IBM apart from the Win backup? Which do you guys mainly use, and why? I know I need to make a full disc backup from time to time but I am especially interested in weekly backups of my data files.
Direction here would be very helpful too.

Another question
I just used product recovery last weekend to completely nuke my T40 because I was getting some weird errors in WinXP. I have the system completely back to how I like it, with all my apps and settings. I would like to make a disc that will restore my machine to this state, rather than have to go through the process of reinstalling everything again. My question is this:
1) What program do I use to do this? I have IBM Rapid Restore installed now, which appears to be able to make the image onto the hidden partition, but I would ideally like the image onto a CD or DVD.
2) Is it worth updating to a Thinkvantage program to to the above?
3) I dont have a DVD burner on this machine, but I do on my desktop. Can I transfer whatever image I make to my desktop for burning, or do I need to get an external case to connect the DVD burner directly to the T40?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Another question
You can use the latest Rescue and Recovery to do what you want. It initially uses a hidden partition for the images, but has options for you to copy the files to numerous other media including cd/dvd. It can schedule regular images so that you won't have to reinstall and tweak.Biker2679 wrote:I just used product recovery last weekend to completely nuke my T40 because I was getting some weird errors in WinXP. Not exactly. The ones from IBM service a wider range of laptops where the ones you create are more tuned to your laptop. Meaning the drivers for your video audio, etc are included but not drivers for hardware on other configurations.
The factory cd's I used included one more cd than the ones I created after using the factory cd's to restore my system.
