T Series Improvements You'd Like to See??

An even better use for the touchpad - I have it set so the left half of the touchpad is a big "back" key and the right half a big "forward" key - makes web surfing really easy as my thumb is right above it on the TrackPoint buttons and I can easily reach both touchpad buttons with it!

I wold like to keep the position of the fn and control keys. One of my most used keystrokes is control-c or control-v for copy/paste. And when the control key would be at the fn key position, the distance would be far to long. Probably I would hurt my dumb. Just try it out yourself

You must either have really small hands or are doing Ctrl-C/V in a way I never thought possible.....how does your thumb enter into it?? Granted, I have some big hands (I'm 6'4") but I find it a very comfortable reach to do Ctrl-C/V with my pinky and index fingers. If the Ctrl and Fn keys were switched, it would be perfect for me...my hand would be evenly spread. But with the Ctrl key where it is, doing the Ctrl-C/V combo requires that I scrunch up my hand a bit to use the pinky-index fingers. But I'm getting used to it, and its definitely something I can deal with, considering some of the [censored] other laptop manufacturers pull with their keyboards.......


As for the Windows key, don't need it. Just remap the right Alt key, and its perfect (for me at least). Other than that, definitely offer the option to get rid of parallel port, PC-card slot, and heck even modem. Who uses these things anymore? Other than nonny.

Oh, I press the control button with my thumb and the c or v with my index finger. I really never thought that this is an unusual way. But as I think about it, you are probably right. Then I understand why people want to change fn and the control key

the T42 models (and prior T series) support DVI monitors through docking stations and port replicators, but only to a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 (unless you apply "driver hacks" from 3rd-party websites).

future models should support a minimum of 1600x1200 through DVI, to make full use of LCD screens that have been on the market for years now.

HP and Toshiba both now have thin-and-lights that outclass IBM in this area.

- The Thinklight is sadly more brighter than the T2x models. It would be nice if you could put some small, different, colored plastic in front of it....And if thats not, than please not soo bright. Or let us adjust the brightness...

- And like 4 knobs or touchbuttons on the upper top which are customizable, for winamp for ex., that you can stop, pause or fastforward even if you have the thinkpad closed...

- And more wider scale in adjusting the brightness with the fn-key. Sometimes it cannt be dark enough....

- More Often newer ATI cards. Why are they putting the 9600 where they also could have used the 9700 ?

- from the outsidecolour i liked the t2x more, it was "more"black, t4x looks like more plastic to me.

- an nice(own) ibm theme for winxp.

- 2 Configurable buttons like and beside the volume-buttons for assigning programs.

otherwise everything is already great and i really enjoy the t40s...

My trusty A31p waits to be replaced by a shiny new T-Model. When the T50p comes out, I really hope it will have:
- One or two firewire ports (after all, it's a lot smaller than the serial port that went out)
- USB slots positioned such that I can plug in my memory stick and my mouse at the same time. Having four of them also would not hurt, but is not necessary (after all, at home, all the other peripherals are behind a USB hub)
- The parallel port might go if needed to make space. For me, burning a PDF onto a CD is a faster way to get something printed on the road.
- A minidock that officially supports 1600x1200 DVI, and preferably even the 2560 x 1600 needed for the new 30" models. For on-the-road presentations, the analog monitor connector is still the standard for projectors, and so needs to stay.
- A larger HD. I now had 60GB for more than two years, shouldn't 120GB drives be available by now?

Call it a silly suggestion, but I'd really like to see some recessed "feet", sort of like the little feet that on keyboards. That would really make the ThinkPad a whole lot more ergonomic on your desk.

Of course, the extra FireWire, USB and Serial ports would not be missed.

I would also like to see the RAM slots and expansion slots relocated to the bottom, like the X31, much more accessible and easier to upgrade. I hate to move the keyboard and open up my whole system just to add more RAM or replace the Wireless card.

Though I am fine with the normal T-series case, I would like to see the frame made of genuine carbon fibre, with a naked carbon fibre shell as the lid. Not so much for weight savings, but for the "industrial look". Might be a little ambitious, but what the hell...
