FYI ON RECOVERY DISKS ..
I have read a lot on people needing the recovery disks (due to various issues). I do not know if it has been said before..but here it goes...
Assuming Lenovo kept the option...
1- IBM would supply anyone buying a new TP with the recovery disks FREE within the first 30 days of system purchase! All you have/had to do was call.....
If there is a "build" option for the set...explain that CD-R's are rated for a life of 2 to 5 years (TRUE) and that file degradation is possible within the life of the TP. CD-R (CD-R's have a chemical layer that degrades in a rather short time, causing data corruption; mass produced media is "stamped" creating the dimples on the plastic and then covered with "foil" so these will not fail due to data corruption caused by the chemical agent degrading..since there is none!)
2-IF you have the set..and you pass it on, make the recovery disks available...at least give them a copy on CD-R!
My $.02!
PS: Also be aware that once an OS is discontinued (support on it by MicroSoft), the OEM's HAVE to pull all remaining recovery disks that relate to that OS! They will never be available to the public again.
Being in the Field service arena..I get to see this all the time! and it could easily be resolved!

Good point, this is the reason I keep an iso file of the recovery CD and DVD on my hard disk.draco2527 wrote: explain that CD-R's are rated for a life of 2 to 5 years (TRUE) and that file degradation is possible within the life of the TP. ***Does this also to CD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW ?
Thank you in advance!

A similar thing could be said for the RW Optical Media; in fact, more so since they have layers of that same material, just thinner. I rarely use DVD-RW or CD-RW if I want to keep data around awhile. I usually go with CD-Rs for most stuff (LiveCD, Boot Disks, Recovery Media, etc). HTH

I don't know if it's different in each country, but I bought my T43 in September, and i called IBM Denmark last week, and they told me that they would send recovery discs to anyone that called in. You can only get one set per machine, but it's free of charge. I haven't received my set yet (they told me that it could take up to 30 days), but I'm hopefully it willl be here soon.draco2527 wrote:

Recovery disks
My Experience is that it takes around 1½ week.
In Denmark they are shipped from Scotland or Ireland.
They are very good assurance to have - for all the reasons mentioned above in th thread.
