finger print reader inquiry

#1 Post by thesyst3m » Sun Jan 22, 2006 1:32 pm

is it possible that during start up, the only option is the finger print reader to log in??

the "press control alt delete to log in using password" is bugging me

thx!

It is not possible to completly remove the ability to overide the fingerprint reader with a password, however there is an option in the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" (ie Fingerprint Control Center) under "Settings" -> "Logon Settings" to remove the prompt to press ctrl-alt-delete.

Hope that helps.

The ThinkVantage window that comes up defaults to using the Fingerprint Reader; you can hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete to use a Password.

Now, I remember seeing a Thinkpad (floor model at the TSW, T42 I think) that had the FPR integrated into the Windows Logon. As of yet, I haven't figured out how to do that.

I think it involves fast user switching; FUS, however, seems to be disabled due to the ThinkVantage FPR software taking control at login. HTH :)

Run the Fingerprint Software ... Settings ... Logon Settings ... "Do not show CTRL + ALT + DEL hints in log-on screens."

I think that this does not work with the Fast User switching. I don't like that anyway. Fine for the kiddies' XP Home machine, but....

thesyst3m: You need to update your fingerprint reader software. The option davidspalding is talking about only appeared in the newest version. To do this, run system update (note that you may need to download system update from the Lenovo ThinkVantage site if it did not come preinstalled on your machine). Run System Update and look at the optional updates (not critical or recommended) and the Fingerprint Reader software will be listed. Note that the release notes have no mention of this additional option being added, but it is only in the current version. Download and install it and the option will be available after the next reboot.
