1.6 Pentium M in a T40-will it work? Can I use artic silver?

#1 Post by bfgun » Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:31 pm

May upgrade the processor in my T40 machine - will a Pentium M 1.6 work? Same socket size? currently has a 1.3 in it now. Just want verification before I take it apart and swap out the CPU.

also, knowing thermal grease used in these machines is a white goey substance, I tend to use Artic Silver when building desktops. Could I use artic Silver in place of the thermal grease that's in the machine now?

thanks!

Yes, it will work and you WANT to use ArcticSilver. It's thermal conductivity is higher than the white silicone grease or a thermal pad.

FYI, the T40 will accept up to a 2.1GHz Pentium M (must be 400MHz Front Side Bus).
