Problems connecting to network on T40

#1 Post by afd » Mon Jan 23, 2006 7:57 pm

Hello,

I bought a used T40 off ebay and just got it today. I am having a lot of trouble trying to setup the internet connection, both wired and wireless.

I have a Linksys wireless B router setup that I have used successfully with other laptops; when I turn the T40 on it is able to detect my home network but it cannot connect to it. If I use Windows XP (instead of IBM Access Connections) to manage the connection, it says "connected" but I am only able to send data and not receive any.

I updated the driver for the wireless card (Intel® PRO/Wireless 2100 3B) as well as the ethernet card. Trying to connect using the ethernet cable does not work either, the icon in the system tray still says "a network cable is unplugged." I know that cable works because I use it on my desktop machine.

Another interesting note, if you click on the wireless card's icon in the system tray to get its status it says that the wireless radio is OFF. But if I hit Fn + F5 it says the radio is on. On the times when I was able to half-connect as mentioned above, the system tray icon still listed the wireless radio as off.

Im running XP Pro with SP2. Any help is appreciated.

Try doing an ipconfig /all when you have your 1/2 wireless connection and see what the IP address is you are getting, is it in the subnet of the dhcp for the router, and is dhcp enabled in the router and your laptop. Have you tried connecting (wired) to anything besides the router?

thanks for the reply, it turned out that all I needed to do was run the IBM Software Installer. I did that and downloaded 150 worth of various updates and now wireless and wired works fine.
