Rescue and Recovery update 3.01.0037

#1 Post by quadophile » Tue Jan 24, 2006 7:56 am

Recently there has been an update (January 17, 2006) posted on the IBM site for the Rescue and Recovery 3. Tried downloading it and installing it but kept getting errors.

The first error cropped up with Microsoft Anti Spyware stating that a VB script requires approval, I clicked the button for acceptance but the thing kept popping up again and again.

Secondly, I disabled the MS Anti Spyware and things moved on but again I ran into problems when the installation utility stated that the drive letter not recognised.

I am not sure if there is something wrong or what, but tried to check at IBM website and nothing. I simply had followed the instructions for updating to 3.01 and did not work.

I have the T43 (2668F3G) with RNR 3.00.0027.00 which I had updated to in November after getting the T43 in September 2005

Anyone tried it? Did it go smoothly?

I really like to update it to the newer version since it has few bug fixes as well as some improvements as stated on the site.

Any information would be appreciated.

I also had problems with the update patch, so I downloaded and installed the full version. At the end of the install, after I got the reboot screen, there were a couple of xcopy error messages that showed up. I rebooted and chose to install again. I was presented with a Modify, Repair, or Uninstall menu. I chose to repair, and let it run. There were no errors this time. I checked and I was able to boot into Rescue and Recovery or enter Rescue and Recovery in Windows, so it appears everything is working OK.

Thanks for your response.

I would ideally like to use the patch without problems, yes, full install of 475 MB is always a possibility.
My Thinkpad does all the thinking for me :)

I tried the update patch twice, and both times it failed and automatically rolled back the installation update, during the installation update process. Perhaps it would work in Safe Mode. I did not try a Safe Mode update.

That is a good idea for sure! No harm in trying. Will see if it works after I am through with my work and have backed up everything.

update worked fine for me. But a fresh install too may get the job done.

Bumping this one... :)
I've also had no luck installing the update (3.00.0027.00 -> 3.01.0037).
I can confirm the update won't work in safe mode, because Windows Installer can't operate in safe mode.
So, the question is, should i uninstall currently installed version and than install a new copy of version 3.01, will the new version be able to "scan and find" my previous backups (located on an HD on a different computer).
It's pretty useless to upgrade if my previous backup are no longer useable (most important, the "base backup" - XP and IBM stuff only).
Thanks in advance, Adam.

I ran the patch last night for RnR/CSS with no problem. I also upgraded the fingerprint software to version 5.4. I haven't tried using RnR yet, however.

Thanks, safelder.
However, the reason i ask about installing the full version instead of applying the patch is i get an error i can't seem to resolve.

Greetings, everybody!

I have also had problems with Rescue and Recovery ver. 3, although I have not tried the newest version, which is refered to (this newest version being 3.01.0037); I have only used a slightly older version: 3.00.0027.

Anyway, I received my T42 about a year ago, with Rescue and Recovery ver. 2 pre-installed, but I have never used it. Recently, I updated from that old R&R ver. 2 to the above new ver. 3.00.0027 (I actually don't remember, if I received any errors during the upgrade?). Subsequently, I decided to make the Recovery CD-ROM's; I had not done that yet, so I attemped doing this using the new ver. 3.00.0027. However, that didn't work out at all; I received an error sayng:

"C\Program Files\IBM ThinkVantage\Rescue and Recovery\rrcmd.exe

Windows cannot find "C\Program Files\IBM ThinkVantage\Rescue and Recovery\rrcmd.exe". Verify, that the name has been correctly written, and try again (and blah blah)"

So, of course first after checking this superb forum :D I went to IBM's site, and discovered that there is actually a hotfix:

Critical update for Rescue and Recovery v3.00.0027 and Client Security Solution v6.00.0027

- available at:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... VAN-RNRHF1

I downloaded and installed this fix, and ran "my" (fixed!) R&R ver. 3.00.0027 again to create the Recovery media... and it went without problems this time... made the seven CD-ROM's succesfully. So, now I can sleep more calm at night... :)

So, maybe this patch/hotfix also applies to R&R ver. 3.01.0037? I don't know!

Good luck, and please report back here what you end up finding.

Best regards,

Johan

I didn't mean to seem sarcastic or anything--I guess I just ended up stating the obvous (YMMV). Johan raises a possibility--I had run the hotfix, which I discovered after screaming and swearing at my machine for deleting every single one of my stored passwords.

As to installing the full version, I was scared off of that from by the disclaimer on the webpage that says something to the effect of "you may need to install the patch before you install this version," which didn't make any sense to me.

I haven't noticed any new functionality in the updated versions of CSS and RnR. The fingerprint interface looks different, however.
