Very noisey T43 CD drive when watching video from CD-normal?

#1 Post by BoostedA4 » Wed Jan 25, 2006 8:28 am

I have a T43 with a CD RW and DVD reader drive ( HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4242N). For one of my courses, I have to listen to lectures on a CD, where we listen to the professor speak (& move). The CD constantly "whirrs" quite loudly. Is this just the design of the CD drive? Is it because it constantly has to access it due to the continuous video from the lecture?

If this is not common, any idea what may be the problem? Thanks in advance

Which program are you watching with?

Tried to upgrade firmware on the drive?

1.

In the BIOS there should be three speed-options for the optical drive: silent, normal and fast. Try silent.

2.

Can't you just copy this CD to your hardrive? Would also save some current.
X200 Tablet (7449); SL 9400; 8 GB RAM; 128 GB SSD (OCZ Vertex 2E), WWAN. Previously: T60; 320 GB HDD / 3 GB RAM / T7200 / x1300 / Bluetooth. Nice machine.

It is some Accounting CD...I don't think it can be put on the harddrive, at least I do not know how...

I'll try chaning the settings in the BIOS.

Thanks
