worth upgrading from 2200bg to 2915ABG?

#1 Post by pat » Wed Jan 25, 2006 2:27 pm

i've been having problems connecting with my router at my apartment and my router at my parent's house (usually takes me about 30 mins to connect) and i'm been wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to the ABG card? is this the atheros chipset? should i go to the atheros chipset card?

help!

If you have a problem with the 2200BG card (and not a few people do), upgrading might be worth it. You can get the 2915ABG, which is another Intel card, just a newer one and with WiFi-A support (you'll probably never need it), or to the IBM a/b/g card, which is the Atheros chipset and is considered, in general, better than the Intel cards.

2200 BG card problems

#3 Post by leegaard » Wed Jan 25, 2006 5:08 pm

I would certain try to find the failure on the 2200 BG card. I have both an 2200 BG and an Altheros (and before that 2100 BG) and each one has their quirks. Try with the latest drivers and AC 4.01 and shut of power saving. Every time I have had trouble with any of them - it has allways been software and/or settings problems.

Solve the problems-

Then you probably will be up and running.

No need to replace IMHO.

FWIW, the 2200BG is consistently the hottest component on my laptop by 10 degrees celsius, and causes the fan to be on all the time. If the 2915ABG or the IBM Atheros is cooler by any chance, go for that. No one has responded to my request for temperature data on the 2915ABG or the Atheros, so I really don't know.
