R&R will not complete backup

#1 Post by kentkrogh » Wed Jan 25, 2006 4:05 pm

R&R will not complete backup and runs for over 4 hours and only completes 43% to 49%. During backup several files must be skipped because of a message saying the file is corrupt or application is running that should be shut down.

Tried running in Safe Mode, but R&R will not load and run in Safe Mode. Keeping wi-fi connections off doesn't help either.

When I run PC Doctor, all tests are OK except the Short Self Test which fails. No error code or hints given as to why. Could there be a HD problem in the backup's partition area?

I upgraded to 3.01.0037 OK. But I had the same problem with 3.01.0025. I have 31.7 free space, 20.2 used space, backup size 0, total 51.9 GB according to R&R.

I'm trying to backup a base. I have no incremental backups.

Any help or ideas fully appreciated. Thank you.

Have you run Check disk and checked all options?

Yes, I ran the disk error-checking previously. I did not run it with 3.01.00.037, only 3.01.00.025.

I should probably try it again.

Try running Drive Fitness Test, to make sure your hard drive is OK.

Not sure how to use Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test. I do not have a diskette drive for my T-43. I do have an IBM Memory stick, but not sure if I can use it. The Hitachi program looks for a diskette drive upon loading of program.

I looked at Fujitsu and found a similar HD program, but it too creates a bootabe diskette.

I did run PC-Doctor diagnostics and passed all the HD tests except the Linear Verify. Failed (Error verifying sectors 11478387 - 11478514). (ECC Error).

That's 127 sectors out of 117210240 or .0000108% of my HD.

Is this significant? I thought many HD's have bad sectors that are just marked off and not used. Should I be concerned? Would this prevent R&R from running?

I finally got my system backed up. Rather than backup to the my HD, I backed up directly to my DVD. Seemed to work OK, since I got the expected 5 DVD's created.

However, I preferred my original way of backing up to my HD first and then copying to a set of DVD's. That way I always had a backup on my TP in case I needed any specific file.

Still wondering about my HD Verifying Errors.
