ThinkPad Won't Boot.

#1 Post by ZaZ » Thu Jan 26, 2006 2:33 am

The hard drive on my ThinkPad failed recently. Lenovo sent me a new one, but I can't get it too boot. After the logo screens it just sits there with the cursor blinking in the upper left corner. I can boot into DOS form a CD and use FDISK so it sees the drive. I have a backup image of the drive from True Image. I restored it and it says it was good, but once again it hangs. Lenovo sent me the recovery discs, but those fail as well although I can boot to the rescue and recovery CD. Orginally when I put the restore CD in it kept trying to boot to the network so I made it so the hard drive the only choice but that failed too. Did I miss something? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try the following:
1. Delete all partitions with fdisk (only delete, no formate)
2. Change the boot order permanently: CD first
3. Insert the R&R boot CD, follow instructions.
4. Be patient: first the service partition will be created and then the system partition from the service partition.

Thanks for the reply. When I first did the R&R CD it kept asking for for network backup. Now I did the restore with the backup CDs, but it keeps booting to the R&R screen. How do I get it to boot to Windows?

IMO, you have built the HPA, but didn't restore your computer using its content.

just select the restore to factory contents option in rnr to complete the process. :)
