thinkpad t41 cd-rw issue

#1 Post by ezeuba » Fri Jan 27, 2006 11:48 am

i just got on this forum and the kind of response i get is encouraging already. i wish it could be same for this post too. on the same thinkpad i use, i discovered just last week the drive now gives me an error when i try to burn cd's: ...power calibration error... and also some older cd's do not open in the drive no more, just fresh newer ones. i tried cleaning the lens but it still gives me that error. what can i d to rectify the situation? thanks all.

CD/RW error

I am afraid that there isnt much to do.

Your machine is not under warranty?

One of the weak points of a Thinkpad is obviously their optial drives. Not of an excellent quality, and quite expensive.

Neat to know, that T-series is sold here in DK with 3 years of warranty by default

ezeuba,

First, make sure you update your unit with the last level firmware....

Then, make sure your CD (media) and DRIVE are clean...

After that, you may just be facing some media incompatibility, not meaning the unit is broken,.... you will have to determine it through some experimentation. If you have access to a C1/C2 or PI/PO checking tool/drive, try to verify that your 'old' media is in good shape.

I was just pulling my hair out wondering why my drive was bad--until I realized it's the media. Take a look at Amazon and you'll see many people are having trouble with Memorex discs. (The junk ones I got are Momorex Ultra Speed CD-RW discs.) Back to the store they go!
