Be careful w/ RNR 3 USB/CD Rescue Media ...

#1 Post by GangBang » Sat Jan 28, 2006 1:38 am

Do not use rescue and recovery 3 BOOTABLE rescue media to recover your files/restore backup. IT WILL DELETE 4GB PREDESKTOP AREA and create a new hidden partition(abt 400MB which contains only RNR software). You may not be able to restore to factory contents again afterall. They Wipe all the predesktop data inside the hidden-partition.
I tried both USB and CD, exactly the same. The Only safest way is to restore backup is to run RNR from the windows environment or Access IBM when you boot up then look for the backup data.
Hope this info may help..

For those who did use the rescue media USB or CD to boot and restore backup, Please recheck the partition size of your Hidden partition or see if you still be able to restore to original factory content inside RNR when you boot up your thinkpad. Correct me if Iam wrong....

That's very interesting, I wonder why would they do that. Maybe it checks if you've already created the "Product Recovery Disk", and if you did, they delete it so you don't create in again. I already deleted it myself, so I won't be able to help you.
