Confused: 2686E6U vs 2686E7U
Hello Folks,
I have been hanging on this forum for about a week and already find
myself spending all my spare time & energy reading posts from you guys.
And got lots of useful information. I find people on this forum very
resourceful.
I looked around but couldn't find answer to this question, so please help
me out.
I was playing different configuration to suit my needs and got stuck when
I saw that 2686E6U and 2686E7U
have *exactly* the same configuration with a price difference of about $50!
Details of 2686E6U
----------------------
ThinkPad T43 2686E6U $1,355.00
Processor: Intel Pentium M Processor 750 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2, 533MHz FSB)

Memory: 256MB PC2-4200 CL4 NP DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM

Battery: ThinkPad T40/R50 Series 6 Cell Li-Ion Battery
USB ports: USB 2.0 Powered Port
Details of 2686E7U
-----------------------
ThinkPad T43 2686E7U $1,405.00
Processor: Intel Pentium M Processor 750 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2, 533MHz FSB)
OS system: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Display type: 14.1 inch SXGA+ (1400x1050) TFT
Memory: 256MB PC2-4200 CL4 NP DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM
Graphics: 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300
Hard drive: 40GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
Optical device: ThinkPad CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo II Ultrabay Slim Drive
Integrated communication: Integrated Gigabit Ethernet and 56K V.92 designed modem
Integrated WiFi wireless LAN: Wi-Fi wireless upgradable (Standard)
Battery: ThinkPad T40/R50 Series 6 Cell Li-Ion Battery
USB ports: USB 2.0 Powered Port
Does anyone know why?
And, which model should I go ahead and CTO (Configured To Order) for my needs,
if there are any subtle differences?
I would like to have following:
Pentium M (1.86GHz, 2MB L2, 533MHz FSB)
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (would run Linux mostly)
14.1 inch SXGA+
512 MB DDR2 RAM
64MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300 (Standard)
60GB 7200 rpm HDD
DVD-recorder
If you have some alternate base model to CTO, please suggest.

But I didn't find this information on the site I mentioned?
Where do you look for such 'fine' information when common sense fails :-S

I've been using address http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... NumLookup/_ + modelnumber as source for information. I'm not sure if it's complete for all models, but generally enough for basic specs.
In this case, the difference (fingerprint reader) can be seen from the security section:
2686E6U and 2686E7U

I go here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... country=us
It provides a brief summary about all models, including those not covered by the Tabook.
