Buying a new T43 directly from Lenovo Canada

#1 Post by kellyreddog » Tue Jan 31, 2006 1:14 pm

Currently running 2-T21's and 1-T22 at home ... all of which are getting a "little long in the tooth"

Considering purchasing a new T43 directly from Lenovo Canada ... toss up 'tween one of the following 3 models ($1499.99 to $1649.00 CAD - free shipping)

http://caipsgws001.can.ibm.com/store/co ... aud=LENOVO

Anyone on this forum bought directly from Lenovo Canada and/or Lenovo USA ?? ... would you care to share your experiences/recommendations - good, bad or otherwise?

Also, would I be better served to go for a higher end T43 model ?? ... given the new beast will not be used for any high end gaming ... but rather for Internet, Word Processing, digital still photo manipulation ... nothing really processor intensive (will become a part of my 802.11b wifi network - total of 4 laptops & 2 desktops - file sharing etc.)

Thanks in advance for any input ...

Frank

Just my quick opinion, and buying from Lenovo Canada may be slightly different, but -

When I went shopping, I originally was going to buy direct from Lenovo. I soon found out, though, that Lenovo is required to collect sales tax if you live anywhere that they are registered to do business. (They are registered in all 50 states, AFAIK. Not sure about Canada.)

For me, it was much cheaper to find a reseller in Ohio that didn't charge sales tax for a purchase made from Washington. As an added plus, the price was slightly lower than it would have been had I bought direct from Lenovo, and since they were an authorized IBM/Lenovo reseller, any manufacturer rebates were still valid.

(The company's site is at www.euclidcomputers.com , if that helps at all.)

Thanks for the input, Alan ...

Trouble is I don't believe there are such entities as Authorized IBM/Lenovo Resellers here in Canada (at least none that I can find ... if someone knows that such a beast exists here in Cda, please let me know).

I could purchase a new T43 from your supplier, but would have to pay 15-18% exchange, USD to CAD, plus as soon as the laptop crossed the "49th parallel, the Canada Customs folks would stick me with 15% Cdn federal & provincial sales taxes based on the USD amount of the purchase.

If it was shipped by one of the courier companies (UPS/Fedex/Purolator) ... as opposed to being shipped via the US Postal Service, then I'd be treated to another $50.00-$75.00 worth of "broker fees" ...

and ... if I haven't totally depressed you yet ... also a possible "duty" of God knows how much may or may not be imposed by the Cdn Feds :(

Plus the whole US vs. Cdn warranty issue might arise??

Appreciate your suggestions, but don't think it's economically do-able to purchase one from the US ...

Cheers ...

I had a very nice experience purchasing T43p from Lenovo Canada this christmas. Delivered fast. Never dealt with their warranty, though.

Cheers, Anton

I have a great contact at Metafore Solutions in Canada, who won't charge shipping, but charges tax. If you need his info, feel free to email me...president[at]mailnation.net

I have been dealing with Metafore for years (since 1982 when it was Compucentre before Metafore) and they are a good vendor. I bought 2 1875-M1U's for clients and they are most pleased. At the base price, the warranty is one year and the clients paid for a complete three-year warranty. Still a good deal. ... JD Hurst
