Intel 2200BG + DLink 524 - Does anyone has good setup?

#1 Post by jhonyl » Wed Feb 01, 2006 11:39 am

Hi,

I have T42 with Intel PRO 2200BG, and a DLing DI524 router. I recently find it hard to connect after standby or hybernate. Funny though, if I plug the wire, then the wireless finally connect. I don't know what to do. I tried updating the driver with intel site. I tried to twick the settings on my router, but that didn't get me anywhere.

if you plug in the wire, the onboard nic takes over instead of using wifi.

if you have another router give that a shot. also try to connect with wep or wpa disabled and see if that solved the problem. if so you have software problems, otherwise you have config / hardware prblems.

On a T43, I had the same problem. D-Link post a firmware upgrade for a "Centrino connection" problem in January 2006. This fixed it for me.

Make sure your router is upgraded -> http://support.dlink.com/

jhonyl...I have the same machine (2378FVU and 2200B/G) with same router and getting the same problem...no connection. I went thru all the driver updates. Decided I like windows mangement over IBMs Access Connection since I don't change profiles and didn't need the additional software and process overhead. I changed my firewall setting (ZoneAlarm Free) to medium. And VOILA! I can now connect 100% of the time coming out of standby. I never have connection problems. It's been almost a month with perfect connections. I almost always get at least 36mps (about 50% 54mps) and excellent connection rating. The T42 is approximately 60ft with 5 interior drywalls from the Hawking 15db directional antenna. With stock Dlink antenna, I remember getting only poor, sometimes good connections, never excellent, and speeds were usually in the 5-11mps range.

Underclocker mentions new firmware for DI524. The Jan 2006 update is only for older A models. My C model has the latest Sep 2005 3.20 firmware installed. But he has a good point...check your firmware!

But I have solved my standby connection problems with simple (and I feel safe, even though ZA says computer is now visible but protected and use only temporarily. Just change your firewall setting). Your result may vary. :)

Hi treker, we have exactly the same laptop :) and router :(

I also have version C of the router with firmware 3.20, and driver 9.0.2.31 for the 2200BG card. I have upgraded it further directly from the intel site, but it didn't help and there was no Fn+F5, so I have downgraded it back to the IBM's driver. I don't have ZoneAlarm, just the built in windows firewall, I'll try next time to disable it to see if it helps.

I googled and found this url http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodte ... nsupp.mspx in which there it is shown how to get logs of the wireless. So I did the steps in order to get the logs. One of which was to restart the 'Wireless Zero Configuration' service. I did it and after not connecting for 10 minutes after standby, it has connected, right after that service restart.

By that web page: "Wireless connection problems when performing a suspend and resume with a laptop computer" is caused by "Improperly functioning or outdated wireless network adapter driver". However, no good driver exist yet, that I know of...

Well I must apologize to the router for giving it a ":(" at the top of this message, as it looks now the problem is with Intel's 2200BG driver.

Update: Again the connection couldn't be made after hibernate. I restarted the 'wzcsvc' service, but this time it did nothing. I turned off windows firewall, but it didn't help. So I gave up and pluged in the LAN cable. After some time (maybe 15 minutes) the wireless got connected by itself. So I still have the problem.

Update II: Now it can't connect wirelessly at all. I found out that it is still under warranty, so I gave DLink support a call, and after around 6 hours of talking with their support team, who gave me instructions in an attempt to make it work, they have finally gave up and agreed to give me an RMA for sending it back for service. G. Thanks.

I have a T60 with Intel 3945 a/b/g wireless card and a relative has the D-Link DI-524 router. Similar problem you guys reported - when coming out of standby or hibernate, even though it shows the wireless connection, I cannot pull web pages, etc. Restarting the laptop resolves the issue, but restarting the router alone does not. Running latest router firmware.

No problems with laptop at home with Linksys WRT54G router.

Here's what solved it for me: I added the IP range that the D-Link router's DHCP server uses to the "Trusted Zone" in ZoneAlarm. I recall doing this with my home Linksys router as well when I first got the laptop. This is similar to treker's solution above, but a bit better in that my Internet Zone security is still set at High, while Trusted Zone security is set to Medium.
