closing hook broken

#1 Post by bebzif » Fri Feb 03, 2006 5:34 am

Hey,

I open my TP this morning -- and bad surprise : the left hook that close the lid felt on the keyboard, broken.
Does anyone know if the closing mechanism is easy to change ? Does anyone had a similar experience ?
The right one is still alive -- but I suspect that without the left one my TP may wake up unexpectly as the close detector is on the left side of the laptop.

The hook is very easy to replace. Just a few screws you can take off the LCD front bezel. Search for the hardware maintenance manual at IBM/Lenovo site.

Thanks for your reply.
I checked on the Lenovo website and found that page :
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-55304
However, I don't know which part to buy : is "LCD Cover kit" needed ? I don't see hooks alone.
Any help appreciated -- I don't want to buy the whole cover just for a hook!
Cheers!

When one of my A20p hooks broke too, I was told by the IBM representative that it is no possible to buy them separetly. The whole package was quite expensive so I lived with it.

You may look at eBay... maybe someone sells parts from a broken T42 there. I have got a few that way for my old laptop.

X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)
