Hi,
Struggling to find a definitive answer as to whether a UJ-822B will definitely work with my T40?

Seen a used one for sale on Ebay and the seller claims they are used in T42 etc
Also, read elsewhere that the IBM Multiburner is a UJ-822b

However another poster in this forum has had problems getting a HP UJ-822B to work with this T4x thinkpad because it has a female/male compatibility problem.

Can anyone say with certainty that they have had a Matshushita UJ-822B work fine with their T40/T41 etc?

I have the standard Combo DVD/CDRW drive and have no problems transplating the rails etc?

The IBM one should work. Even they are both UJ-822, they can have different connector, shape and plate cover.

I dont think the one on Ebay is an IBM one - I think it is a vanilla Matshushita model.

So does that mean it wont work?

The drive should fit OK and you will find instructions on how to change the caddy rails here. The instructions deal with a 12.5mm drive but they should make for a good start in getting this done.

The drive will probably fit without needing any modification. I had 2 of those drives and they did not perform well at all, I would advise you to skip that drive and get a external USB enclosure for a higher quality desktop drive. You'll save a fair amount of money and have a much more reliable drive.
