t43 display BLACK/BLANK

#1 Post by verytallguy121 » Sun Feb 05, 2006 1:28 am

hi,

i have the thinkpad t43 2686M7U. bought it brand new from levono 1/4/06. got delievered to my door on 1/18/06. Today 2/4/06 i tried to use the laptop but the display was just black and no activity. All there was is the green battery light and the circle with a "z" shape light in it green. no harddrive activity at all. and the screen is blank/black. didnt get the bios or windows bootup screen. Not a thing. I tried to swap hard drives but same thing. Do you guys know what the problem is? Do you think i can get my money back? I know its 30 days over from purchase date but i didnt even get the delievery of the laptop until 1/18/06. it was held in customs since the laptop came from hong kong. I will call levono on monday to try to get this thing returned to them. I hate levono's customer service. So hard to get through to them and on hold for very long time and the phone rings for a very long time. Help me out guys. Thanks.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums :)

I would give Lenovo a call and explain to them that you didn't get your system within the 30 day period and that it has some issues; given that it won't even turn on, I would say they are going to be curious and may ask you to send it back to them for repair/replacement. Good Luck :)

is there any beeps or error messages? is the fan on?

if nothing could be done, you'd better call the IWS.

before contacting lenovo, be sure to have some legal letters that support your statement.

no error messages, the fan is on, the dvd burner beeps like it always does when i turn it on. other than that, nothing! when i turn it on, right at the beginning i get a bunch of vertical lines on the screen for a half second then it goes to black.

what do u mean legal documents. I have my email from when i ordered the laptop and i still have the ups delivery confirmation i can use to say that i didnt get it until the 18th of Jan, I kept all the boxes just in case i had to ship it back and all the manual and stuff. Anything else i'd need?

All you have to do is call tech support as soon as possible, that should be the first place to contact if you are still in the 30 day window and if you received it the 18th sounds like you are, even if you are not you should get some help from them. You don't need any documents if you bought it from lenovo, just have your machine model and serial number ready when you call in. You may also want to have the machine in front of you with the power adapter at hand, because they may tell you to push some buttons before they tell you to send it back.

spoke to lenovo this morning, going to return it for my refund. WOOHOO! gotta box it up and ups is coming to pick it up tomorrow.

i also have a t41p that has teh same problem but not sure if its still covered under warranty. how much do u think it'll cost to replace the system board on it? i'd love to get it fixed because its better than my t43.
