I have a T42 that I purchased for my prior employer just before leaving that job. I am considering buying it for my personal use. It has 2gb ram, 80gb hdd, a,b,g wireless, bluetooth, XGA, the good keyboard and LCD, 3yr warranty plus accident coverage. It runs real well and very cool, rarely going over 48 deg and I never hear the fan.
Is this a good plan, or should I turn it back in and use the $$ to buy a T43 or even a T60. If I buy it, how much is it worth. Including the ram, docking statiion, MS Office and second battery I think it cost about $2400 back in Oct.

Well; you already tried the T42 out, right? So unless you have a really pressing need for more compute power and extra features, you might very well be better off going for the T42.

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

the H6U should be SXGA+ - I owned that exact model (CTO) and paid around $1500 for it. it was cool & quiet, but I had four system boards fail over the course of 3 weeks so IBM provided a full refund. I'm now using a T43 which I hate so I plan to try the new T60, which I liked quite a bit when I tried it at CES last month.
My mistake, yes it is SXGA. I have stress tested this machine a bit, the temp climbs to about 70 deg C. but no errors get reported. It has only been lightly used in the past 3 mos but seems pretty solid. I am primarily a Mac user but need a Windows machine for some programs. If I can buy the Thinkpad for no more than $1500 with all the extras then I might go for it, otherwise likely turn it back in to my ex-employer.hoya wrote:the H6U should be SXGA+ - I owned that exact model (CTO) and paid around $1500 for it. it was cool & quiet, but I had four system boards fail over the course of 3 weeks so IBM provided a full refund.
