What's the major differences between the T and R series?

#1 Post by notebooknewbie » Sat Jul 17, 2004 10:21 pm

I was looking at some R series notebooks and they seem to offer similar features as some T series notebooks I was looking at but at a discount. Is there a reason for that or is it just because the R series is being phased out or something?

The 15" version of T42 is roughly same size/weight as the R51, but can cost twice as much (or more).

for double the cost, you get:

Pentium M 735/745/755 models (with the significant CPU's 2MB cache),
15" LCD for T42 vs. 14" for R51
Screen resolution for R51 is max 1024x768 for now.

but for double the cost, go figure the math for yourself to see it's worth it to you...

The basic difference is that the T series is smaller and constructed of more durable materials (titanium composite base, magnesium alloy LCD cover) and that the R series is larger and constructed of standard ABS plastic.

The T series also has higher end options available, like FlexView displays and FireGL GPUs. The R series had these options at one point in the R50p, but I think the R50p was replaced by the T42p.

the R50p and T42p would look quite similar in size/weight/look.

but T42p would cost up to 3 times as much, so go figure...
