Me:

-integrated GPS receiver (with integrated antenna)
-integrated TV and FM tuner
-integrated webcam (like on the Apple MacBook Pro)
-CF reader

Asking too much?

VGA at the back instead of the side.
2 more USB Ports.
A Windows Key....;

A switch/button to directly start /stop Wifi/Bluetooth.
Better speakers.
SD/CF Card reader.

I have a CF reader in my X22. I never use it.

What the heck did they think I needed this thing for? On the chance that out of the dozen choices for flash-card formats I might have that one? Phfffft.

Widescreen in a T form factor/build quality (sorry but the Z's don't count)
1600x1200 or higher in a 14" (with Vista scaling makes it desireable)
WiMax
External (SideShow) display

Those sort of features are more likely to show up in a Z series, which is multimedia oriented. A T series is a business machine, and will accordingly always have fewer frills.

AFAIK the Z series already has the CF reader...

15k SCSi drives (a man can dream, can't he?).

How about the $1300 QXGA panel? FRU 92P6684. I agree WRT high resolutions. 1400x1050, really isn't much wen you want two XGA or even SVGA (ick) VMWare sessions or terminal server sessions, a note taking program, and maybe thow in a explorer window or command prompt, oweb browser side by side (you basic IT administrator self-paced study session). UXGA is better and WUXGA or QXGA are better still.

What's the point of optical audio out when the soundcard's crappy anyway?

I'd like near desktop-like performance from the optical drive, but I know that's a dream... also I'd like the optical drive to be better at reading music CDs.

For a lot of things people are asking for, you can get PCMCIA solutions. I don't see the point of asking for stuff like that. People who miss the CF card slot can get a PCMCIA card that will read 6 types of card all in one, a much better use of the same slot...

Just out of interest, why do people want GPS?

Relocate all ports to the BACK of the T with the exception of the PCMCIA slots, audio in/out and may one or two USB ports
Switch/button for WiFi/BT
SD Card reader
External antenna for WiFi/BT
24/192 audio card with DSD decoding and upconverting too
SACD capable drive
SERIAL PORT!!!
Better graphics card, somewhere along the lines of a Silicon Graphics system?
5+ hour battery life at a minimum
Low heat
Built-in espresso machine

You may be able to get one that works with your T40. Look under item 4, near the bottom. It is called a "Ultrabay optical drives Travel cover", FRU number 13N5108

What I want to see is better spaced USB ports (maybe vertical), a firewire port, and for god's sake a little app that custumizes the functionality of the fn key.

I liked the camera option available on the T2X series, I had it and used it all the time. I would be connected via WiFi and I would "scan" the room, everyone on the other end could see what I was seeing.

I think it was a great add-on, sadly they never introduced that feature into other models.

I'd like to see:-

Firewire 800 port but one that is fully powered. See http://www.wiebetech.com/ for firewire products that allow you to power an external 3.5" drive over the FW bus. Would provide a way of having large amounts of external storage without having to lug around another brick power adapter.

Switch to enable/disable wireless would be handy. Would make it easier to disable the radio when flying or when booting up laptop.

Improve case quality to stop creaks and rattles without having to resort to homebrew moleskin shims or fixes.

Give larger discount to Bill so that he can pass these savings onto his customers

A T44 that includes all of the above without any more weight, or even better reduced weight. I like the idea of the T60 widescreen but not the extra bulk or weight. I think I'll stick with the T4x series for the moment.

A couple of extra USB ports would be icing as I seem to have both in use these days with the occasional need for one more. (Disk, Mouse, Charger)

Throw in a large bag of trackpoint rubber tips. They must cost almost nothing to make.

I would want to...

Change the material of the base to a magnesium as on the X3x series.
Keep the S-video.
Change VGA to DVI
Add firewire.
Revert back to 2 x PCMCIA slots OR change it somehow so a PCMCIA Type III (Douple hight) fits with the PCI-express card slot.
UXGA option in 14.1" formfactor.
Option to change the Phone line connector to a second Ether.
Windows and application key somewhere on the top of the keyboard. For instance above the F-keys, if they must be there.
One more USB port.
Creative ore some other HQ sound chip supplier.
Illuminated keyboard, as on Mac.

I dont want..
Anny buttons or any conections on the front of the laptop.
Anny air intakes at the bottom of the laptop.
Anny connections on the right side of the laptop. DVI port will do since its used so seldom.
A windows blessed keyboard only. I want it as an option. And i dont want any change of the keyboard layout (as in smaller CTRL/ALT keys)

How about preinstalled Linux with a full Thinkvantage Technologies suite that runs under Linux?

And no, I'm not a Linux evangelist. I'm a Windows power user who is sick and tired of Windows. I've tried to switch to Linux a couple times now, but I can never get everything working to my satisfaction. For example, I can use Fn+F5 to control the state of the WiFi OR the Bluetooth radios, but I have never been able to get it to control both as in Windows.

In the past yes. The newest T-60, X-60, and X-60S do not have any TV out port. They say use USB, but offer no USB adapter. I am not even sure that one exists.

The T43 seemed to do away with the infrared port. I think it does have S-video.
