Ultrabay drive keeps "falling out"
Any optical drive that I put into the ultrabay of my T40 will suddenly dissapear from the system tray, I can't figure out why. I have tried 3 different drives and they all do the same thing. If I take the drive out and put it back in, it is usually detected automatically, sometimes I have to go to device manager and scan for new hardware.
My t41 came with a threaded hole, (Through the back into the removable drive), if this is present on your unit, you might try anchoring the drive with it. (MY t41 came with the screw in a small plastic bag...if you do not have it Lenovo may be able to provide one....

I have done that and yes it does work, the problem is that the drive will "fall out" again at a random time for no reason that I can see. Its not just when I turn it on that its not there.dr_st wrote:Question to cruzlite and sugo - have you read the actual post or just the title?![]()

afd - try to uninstall the optical driver from the device manager completely, remove the drive physically, turn the laptop off, attach the drive and boot up. Does it help?
I'll be working on the computer just typing, or sometimes not even touching the computer just listening to music and I'll hear the little ding-dong noise that is made when you remove the drive, and it will no long be detected.

I'have the exact same problem on my R51.
OS just looses contact to the DVD Drive in the Ultrabay at random - Ding Dong.
That's new behaviour since about 1 weeks.
I'm now on my 4th replacement DVD Drive replaced on warranty, and now
after the warranty period ended 2 weeks ago, it turns out that it seems
to be a loose contact on the Ultrabay connector or the like.
Bummer!
