Hey ppl,

SO I bought the Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM drive...the noise is driving me insane. Is the seagate 7200rpm notebook hdd's anybetter?

Try enabling AAM on the drive. Did wonders to my 80GB 7K100.

Use Hitachi's Drive Feature Tool to accomplish this:

I did, it helped, but still noisy? I'm really picky!

Well, I guess one cannot have both speed and quietness. I think the Seagate 5400.3 is a good compromise.

edit: fixed spelling ...

Do you have AAM craked up to the max setting? My 7K100 is silent at the max AAM value. Maybe you got a faulty drive?

Yeah...I do. The clicking noise is a lot less, but the whir is really annoying. I mean, the fan is off, and my office is dead quiet, which is probably why?

The Seagates are cooler and quieter. Hitachis have better performance.
