Using Access Connections instead of ISP software

#1 Post by T41mbi » Sun Jul 18, 2004 10:08 pm

Hi I have broadband cable and it comes with a connection software I was wondering can I use access connections in stead of this? Does anyone know if thats possible or how to configure it?

BTW, I am with Telstra Bigpond Cable... (AUS)

Thnx

if youre using cable chances are your ISP is using DHCP so there is no reason to have to use ANY software, just plug it in and it should work

no you need to connect before you can access the internet ... it wont work right off the bat, w/out the ISP software that is.

The settings changes from cable company to cable company.
However, as in a dial-up the settings that you may need are straight-forward and easy to configure.

If you don't have a paper with the settings, yo may need to contact the cable company support to obtain those parameters.
The most easy things it is to put those parameters in the router.

This parameters are like Internet IP Address are dinamically assigned by Telstra Bigpond Cable or not, Domain Name Server (DNS) Address, etc...

Are you using a router? Which?

Whatever is the case, you should be able to connect alone with the router or a windows configuration. No additional software is neccesary at all.

No router, I have a Motorola SURFBOARD Cable Modem and thats it

When I plug in the cable and type ipconfig i can see all the IP addy's etc... but have to run the ISP software connector to access the internet...I will contact the ISP see if they can provide me with any further information but Tesltra is notorious for being wankers

Cable companies are well known for their pathetic call centers. Don't feel bad about yours only.

I don't know howfamiliar you are with windows...
-Go to Network Connections: (click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections)
-Then click on Create a new Connection.
-Next
-Connect to the internet
-Setup my connection manually
-...
