Can somebody tell me what this is?

#1 Post by boudie » Mon Jul 19, 2004 12:42 am

Hi, am new to ThinkPads, so here is my first question.
On the ibm.ca website, they have a cheap ($1899 CAD)
T40 which is model number 2373223.
Now this model number doesn't seem to match up to
any other models in TABOOK.pdf
Would anyone know anything further about this model
and why the odd number? Is there something I am
missing? Seems like a deal. Thanks.

Yes, I checked that link, but it seems to go down after
a few hours. The specs above seem to be the right ones.
Basically it has 14" screen, Radeon 7500 video, the cheaper
10/100 ethernet and no wireless card.
After checking through all the options, it seems the
same as a 23737CU - so why don't they call it that?
More options would be nice, but I'm right at the edge
of the money envelope now.
Hope their laptops work better than their website.

The primary downfall I see is that it does not come with an integrated wireless card....its wireless ready which means you have to upgrade to something like and 802.11b card, I would also upgrade the RAM to 512.

That's just what I was thinking as well, $104 for an
additional 256 mb of RAM and about the same for
the wireless card.
But now, it's not listed at their site.

Click the "call me" link on the top of the page and have the ibm people call you. I just called about the 2378DMU down the list and even though the website does not say it it had built in wireless this model actually did. The person said they are working on their website listings since some of the wireless info is incorrect.

Just put my order in for the 2373223 with 512 mb RAM
and the IBM wireless card.
Got a small discount by taking advantage of their "Recycle
and Save" program which gave me 8% discount.
I'll miss that old 486 I'm sending them!

Go to ibm.ca -> store -> recycle discount.
"For just $49.99 including shipping, you can recycle any
manufacturer's PC (including system units. monitor,
printers and peripherals)."
And then you get the 8% discount - on options and
accessories as well.

I thought it was neat that when they put me on hold,
they played classical music - Bach, I think.
When I call my Internet Service Provider, I get some guy
yelling in my ear about how I can save money.
