UltraNav driver problem

#1 Post by rgrosz » Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:48 am

I recently returned from a business trip, where I discovered that the touchpad and the trackpoint no longer work. I could not use my T41 on the plane at all - using my trackball (holding it in my lap) was too annoying.

I use my T41 in the port replicator all day, so I had not noticed the problem before. When I checked Device Manager, the UltraNav has a yellow exclamation mark. When I right click, it has this message: "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

I checked my services, but did not find anything fishy. I typically use a Logitech trackball. I searched the forums, and saw some messages about Logitech MouseWare problems. I uninstalled the Logitech software, but that did not help.

I decided the UltraNav driver may be flaky. I checked, and it appears I have the latest version. I do not have the UltraNav wizard installed, so I decided to install that.

After the installation, the system reboots. Now I can't even use the T41 keyboard, and I can't use an external keyboard in the port replicator! When I checked Device Manager, BOTH the UltraNav and the keyboard have a yellow exclamation mark. When I right click, they both show the same message: "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

Luckily I do an image backup each weekend. I was able to reinstall my image, and could use the keyboard again. Today, I decided to try again. Unfortunately, I had exactly the same result, and I just recovered via my backup image file again.

Anyone have any idea how to get the UltraNav and the Touchpad working again?

I have the same problem. Google led me here.

I found that you can disable touchpad in the bios and trackpoint will work. Not sure how to fix touchpad. IBM will fix it for me tomorrow via DHL.

I tried changing the option in the BIOS, but it did not work for me. I guess I'll have to do a total reinstall to fix the problem.
