Ebay is all about the seller.

You need to buy from a reputable seller with lots of positive feedback selling items like the one you want to buy. For example, it seems to me that 1000 feedback items about Pez dispenser sales do not carry the same weight with 1000 feedback items about selling $100,000 Hummers. One's a big hitter and one is not.

Check carefully on warranty status, return policies, shipping costs (you might find that a $200 shipping charges means that the laptop suddenly is not as sweet a deal as it was before).

Pay by credit card for the extra protection that offers you with the seller through your card company in case things go south. Resist the temptation to save by using an escrow service without a stellar reputation.

Finally, the one rule you must always obey on eBay:

Bid once early in the auction for the most that you can afford to spend and then stay away from the auction until after it is complete. After all, if the price goes above the amount you have bid, then you really cannot afford the item.

Well I was lost as to where to go for my new laptop. I've always had good luck with Vaios, but theyve gone downhill lately. I am extremely dissatisfied with Lenovo....stupid Chinese Commies...how dare they put a windows key on a beloved thinkpad. So, the T60 was out. I was about to grab a MacBook Pro, when I was doing some random searching on ebay, when I found a snag on a T43

Grabbed it without hesitation. The T43, X41, and R52 are the last of the true Thinkpads as far as I'm concerned. Lenovo had better get their act together or I will have to go to the dark side - Apple - for my next laptop (Don't worry, I hate OS X too. I would, as I do on all my systems, run Linux)

As to IBM's thinkpad, fairly, Lenovo won't let it down after paying so much money to buy it. Despite of any external factors, Lenovo will enable us customers to feel comfortable. It really need time.

I couldn't agree more. I see a lot of ThinkPads almost every day, and have used a few of Lenovo's new products. No problem with them, the quality is not quite IBM-standard, but it is FAR better than ANY HP, Dell, etc.

A ThinkPad will always be a ThinkPad.

Aside from the blantant racism that this statement constitutes which I think is completely intolerable, Thinkpads are still designed and manufactured at the same designers, researchers and workers who worked on these machines when the operation belonged to IBM. This is guranteed to be the case for atleast the next 5 years. In other words, your Windows key was put on the Thinkpad by an former IBM engineer.

Where in the world where this engineer or any of the other engineers who work on Thinkpads are from is completely and utterly irrelevant.

I would also like to add in on this;

They are *the same* engineers as under IBM; now it is just slightly different management; Thinkpads have been built and partially designed in China for years now, under IBM...There is no significant change in this regard; also, the comments about the "Commies" aren't appreciated by any means, consider actually thinking before writing something like.
