How to recover my T40/p?
How to recover my T40/p?
I have just installed winXP followed by Ubuntu Linux (think I might have erased the hidden partition). Afterwards I installed some updates and now I cannot boot the machine. Nothing happens when I press Access IBM or press F11, I can't even boot with my winXP CD-ROM...where do I go from now??

Yes, you deleted the MBR and a lot of other things.....
You should have installed Linux first and XP last!! (XP should always be the last OS installed)
At this point there is not much you can do, other then doing a clean install. If you select the correct option and the XP cd is legit; you should be able to boot into it without any problems.
Go into the Bios (F1) and select to boot from CD-ROM first, also if you do F12 (or F11) you can choose which device to boot from.
Good luck...
Tony

Dont panic and start doing re-installs yet.
You can easily salvage the situation if the LINUX installation completed normally and only the first boot failed.
Check this thread for a simple 3 step tutorial on how to get your Windows installation back.
Once you have Windows back, here are links to get your dual boot working.
Here are instructions on how to set up Windows as the boot manager.
Another link showing how to set up Windows as the boot manager.
Here are instructions on how to set up grub as the boot manager.
All these apply to dual-boot situations. It does not matter if you install Windows or linux first. Windows boot manager allows you to boot into linux and grub/lilo allow you to boot into Windows as the above tutorials show.
