My T-42 is in the repair shop for a new system board. I do have the HDD that was used the system.
I've tried booting the drive via an external USB adaptor on both a T-40 and T-42 to no avail. After setting the boot order in the BIOS, on post I get an error message that wants to send me to the Rescue and Recover app using F11 (Which doesn't work).
I can see the contents of the drive when hooked up to the T-40. It is listed as E:. But I can't access my data on the drive because it is encrypted (would need USER password using the system normally). Does anyone know of a way to access that User data browsing the drive if I can't boot to it?
Thanks
Steve

I had a similar problem myself with a T42 and Rescue & Recovery V3 software.
The workaround I used was to rely on the Rescue boot CD created using "Create Recovery Media" option to create the RNR boot CD. Even then, my external USB drive could not be seen but if I physically plug in the USB drive connector just after initial boot (just after the thermometer at bottom of screen completes - timing is critical), then the USB drive becomes visible.
The same technique can be applied with a BartPE boot disk to gain access to USB drive. I only discovered this workaround today, hence the late reply.
Booting directly of a bootable USB drive works for me to start with but then finishes up bith a blue screen and a STOP error - if anyone has a solution for that issue, please post.
Cheers from Mike
