harddisk upgrade: samsung vs. hitachi

#1 Post by schmaud » Wed Feb 15, 2006 7:41 am

Hi,

my factory installed 40 GB HD is running full on my T42.
I am looking for a reasonable priced ( in Europe) 5400 rpm drive.
For a similar price/ GB I have now an offer for a
Hitache 80 GB 5K100 and a
Samsung 100GB HM100GC

Can anyone coment on differences in reliability, noise, power-consumption or performance?
A hint for a good review would be appreciated as well.

I know the 7k from hitachi is supposed to be even better, but it is out of the budget.

cheers

ralf

I have found the Hitachi 5K100 and 7K100's to be extremely loud, though they generally perform near the top of their classes.

here is a superb review of 11 hard drives, including the Hitachi's:
