T41-Slightly raised near left palm rest...Solutions?

#1 Post by Curren » Mon Jul 19, 2004 7:58 pm

Just got the T41 and love it. But with this structural flaw (?), I'm not sure if I should send this back to IBM to get it repaired. Ran a search on the forum but no one seemed to have this same prob.

Okay, here it is:

On my T41, where the left wrist rest area meets the other part of the trim's border (from left side view, it is above the HD fan vent), at the bottom-left corner of the blue "fn" key, it tends to bend up a few mm's.

I can push it down and it is flush with the rest of the surface but after a few minutes, it pops back up. Seems like IBM didn't measure the fit accurately or the screws/adhesive that would keep the edge down was not applied properly.

Does this fall under "acceptable" design errors? Or should I send it in so they can make sure it stops bending up?

Don't know what to do but I am a bit disconcerted as I shelled out some bucks for this laptop for grad school.

Thanks!

I have the same problem. It also creaks depending where you push on that left palmrest....

Weird, some on this forum reported that the right side is raised. I don't have either of these problems, so I don't know what is exactly you are talking about. Do you have a pic of it?

Try removing the keyboard, see if the keyboard itself is leveled correctly. Then try reseating it, and when you apply the screws, don't completely tighten one screw before pre-tighten the other four. This might cause a warp on the keyboard. Just tighten slightly on all four screws, then tighten it firmly one at a time, say 4 o'clock position, then 10 o'clock, 2 then 8 etc.
