T43p EC 1.05, BIOS 1.25 [Pulsating fixed or not?]

#1 Post by redchair » Fri Feb 17, 2006 11:36 pm

Well, looks like for the T43p EC 1.05 and BIOS 1.25 are out 02/16/2006. Anybody have any luck testing these updates in relation to the pulsating fan problem? http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-58597
To clear up some confusion, this EC does not even mention the pulsating problem as one of its fixes, but it might have been incldued anyway.

The R50 "value" notebook had its pulsating fan fixed in 2004 with version 3.03 of it's EC software. We may have to put forward an effort to push IBM/Lenovo to update the T40 series embedded controller software. http://lophiomys.gmxhome.de/Thinkpad_R5 ... Noise.html
The T and R series probably don't use the same EC, but hell: we deserve a little more effort from their engineers to get us more than minor revisions.

Notes: this will probably not fix the "always on" problem, but will surely fix the "pulsating" problem. The EC 1.05/BIOS 1.25 changes listed in the website do not include the fan or thermal fixes: but documenters don't necessarily communicate well with the engineers.

I really wish they would address the two concerns most people have: fan noise, and the 2010 error.

How can you be sure that this fixes the pulsating problem when it is not even mentioned in the fixed issues list?

Sorry for the confusion, I have removed the [R50 pulsating fixed c.2004] from the subject. I meant to bring to notice that EC 1.05 had been released, and that we should also note that the Thinkpad R series has had its pulsating fixed circa 2004. I had some time, and found out that the 3.03 EC was released for a whole lot of notebooks including the T42. I just can't stand getting screwed because I own a T43.

I still have the pulsating fan (and noisy fan) problem on my T43, and after upgrading to this BIOS my video adapter now shows 256mb rather than 64mb. I started this thread regarding that subject and it appears that I am not the only one:

The fan always-on and pulsating problems still exist. Kinda frustrated. Hopefully future updates in ECP and BOIS will fix the problem.

Looks like they removed BIOS 1.25 / EC 1.05 from the website:

Version 1YET60WW (1.25) - removed from the site

Looks like they got re-posted. At least the US version of the 1.05 embedded controller firmware is identical to the previously posted one.
