Tried this but ...

Have a HTS721010G9AT00. 100 GB 7k100 that is. I get the 2010 error and while I have bios 1.24, haven't bothered yet to set the thing to pass over the 2010. And usually just hit ESC.

Made the diskette in secton B of the instructions and tried it out.

You boot from DOS into the application. There are three panes in the DOS style display: upper left; upper right and bottom. Upper right gets filled in with information about the new flash.

Upper left should get filled in with candidate drives to which the flash can apply itself to.

The bottom pane shows your results after you run (say hit U).

For me, the flash info appears in the upper right.

But nothing appears in the upper left. And neither the first 'failed' operation (OA51A) nor the succeeding operation work.

Says something about "no recognized drive".

After thinking about in several ways, my best guess is as follows: GangBang shows his 'before' firmware version to be MCZOA40M.

Can you post your 'after' firmware version?

The reason I ask is that the firmware version my machine came installed with is MCZOA51A. Which seems to be what others are upgrading to.

I can only speculate that what I have is OA51A (Hitachi's) and not IA51A (IBM's [that won't provoke the 2010 message]).

So the DOS application runs; finds that I'm at A51A already. And does nothing.

Dang.

So the natural thing occurred to me. Downgrade to some prior version of the firmware. And then upgrade to IA51A.

Except searching around the Web I don't find any Hitachi HDD firmware kits.

Ideas?

thanx.

7k100 60gb for my t41. Is a firmaware upgrade needed?
Just flashed bios to lastest rev 3.19 and embedded controller to v3.04.

thanks

To noeffort:

The firmware update is only for T43 thinkpads since the t43 is native SATA but uses a PATA-to-SATA bridge in order to use PATA drives. Your T41 does not have this bridge and therefore does not have the BIOS flashes a 2010 error when a non-IBM drive is installed.

So the answer is no.

Please read the rest of the thread for yourself or do a search on the 2010 error. you will find the answers you need.

I don't have my new Hitachi HDD yet, but I think you are supposed to boot from the floppy and bypass autoexec.bat with F5, then type the commands on the DOS command line, not from within the FW.EXE program.

Is this correct, everyone?

Yes, I went so far are to delete the autoexec.bat completely. It's not needed.

Well not really sure what the heck I did yesterday (today's been a really long day, and it's now after 11).

The one thing I didn't know is F5 as DOS is starting up to bypass config.sys and autoexec.bat.

Yet on the other hand, I really do think I was using the hfui15 commands the other day. (which would indicate that I was at the command line).

Whatever.

Today, tried again. Hit F5 as DOS was booting from the diskette. Followed in the instructions (first Oa51a; failure; then Ia51a; success).

And yes it works. Flashed. The app indicated success. And the 2010 err message is gone.

And as far as different rev levels, another thing I vaguely remember is checking hfui15's switches and I believe /F means 'force' that is, ignore, for example, that the rev level might seem to be the same.

In Computer Mgmt | Dev Manager | Hard Disks | Properties on the right disk | and then the Details tab, yesterday it read MCZOA51A.

Today it reads MCZIA51A.

Just here to report a SUCCESSFUL venture in ridding myself of the 2010 POST error.

I recently came into a newly purchased T43p -- 2687D5U.

I wanted to upgrade the drive to a 7200rpm version, so I purchased an OEM drive at the local electronics superstore:

Hitachi 80GB 7200rpm HTS721080G9AT00
(Manufacture date of the drive: September, 2005)

I grabbed the "5K7K100_Revised.rar" file and extracted the IMG file from the RAR archive. Then I extracted the files from the IMG file, and created a bootable CD with the extracted files on it. Finally, I proceeded to boot my laptop with said CD.

After following the directions posted by messar, everything is A.O.K. -- no more 2010 POST message.

My gratitude to messar et al. Sometimes the internet (or, more appropriately, the people who use & contribute to it) can be the most useful resource on earth -- ya gotta love it!

Well, duh --- Never having bought anything but an IBM HDD, I now see that no screws and no bracket came with my new Hitachi. Where do I buy those?

I have a HTS541010G9AT00 (firmware version: MBZOA60A).

Sigh... sadly doesn't seem to have a firmware update.

Talked to Hitachi, the rep was rather helpful, and said they have absolutely no reports of issues with their drives in T43's, besides the 2010 error. It's purely the firmware to identify.

Anyone have an idea for the MBZO revision of the 5k100 (100GB)?

I've a problem...
when I've the prompt "A:>" I write the string for my drive and the answer is: bad or invalid command"

It's normal that if I press "dir" I've only 10 files as "autoexec.bat, command.com, system.sys, xcopy ecc.. but not the files of the CDrom????

I use this string:
hfui12h.exe oa6ga mh4ia6ga.bin \f mrha6ga.tbl

(for a 7k60)

thanks!!!!

100GB 7k100 Hitachi Problems

#50 Post by aograin » Thu Apr 20, 2006 12:41 am

Ok, long time reader, first time poster… anyways I just purchased a 100GB 7k100 Hitachi and am having trouble updating the firmware. Here’s what I’ve done so far…

I’ve downloaded and booted from a USB flash drive the files provided by Messar. Yet I can’t get them to work correctly.

The firmware that came with the drive is (MCZOA51A) I need (MCZIA51A).

I’ve tried the:

HFUI15.EXE OA51A MCZIA51.BDR /F MPCA51AB.TBL (and then)

HFUI15.EXE IA51A MCZIA51.BDR /F MPCA51AB.TBL

But I get these errors:

(Execution Status Window)
Checking Drive 0 (Device 0 on Primary Bus)
Soft reset failed. Error code=ff80

Am I missing something? Should I copy my operating system onto the drive first?
Maybe someone has bootable cd.iso that worked for them they could post. As always, thanks for any help.

aograin,

What happens after you enter the first line of commands? Are you taken into the program screen where you press "U"?

Maybe booting from a flash drive is causing the problem. I don't recall anyone else here doing that. You may need to try a floppy.

I have two of these HDD's and each FW update worked perfectly using an external floppy.

Ok, I figured it out. when I created the USB boot drive using HP's utility, I just copied the files over directly onto it. What I needed to do was to create a folder and then put the files into that folder. But that fixed the problem.

Help, please!
I just got a T43 and bought an 80GB 7K100.

The T43 has the latest BIOS (1.25) and I get the 2010 error. The drive has f/w MC40A51A. I used Aronis True Image and the drive boots fine after hitting escape. I know there's an option in the BIOS now to enable the drive to boot on its own but I would like to upgrade the drives firmware.

I tried to follow Messars instructions (part B) but fell as the first hurdle as I can't seem to download the file from http://rapidshare.de/files/13761480/5K7 ... d.rar.html
- either I'm doing something stupid or it's not there anymore?

Edited to say I've made this work now, and will post separate details.

Hi,

I ran the instructions on a 7K 100Gb Hitachi and at first they wouldn't work. It occured to me that I had a User+Master password set on the drive, so I removed it, and then re-ran the instructions. It worked fine.

So, for anyone who is having issues, make sure you don't have a hard disk password assigned before trying...

Thanks,

Alan

Has anyone succeeded in updating the firmware of a Hitachi E7K100? The update routine correctly identifies the drive, but the drive name isn't blinking. I'm guessing that it won't update.

Thanks.
