bios 1.25 and EC 1.04

#1 Post by magneto » Tue Feb 21, 2006 3:18 pm

Hi,

A couple of days ago I upgraded the thinkpad softwares by using the automatic update tool. It also updated the bios to the 1.25 version. But it hasn't updated the embeded controller program. Today I realized that it is still 1.04. When I looked to the ibm's site, I saw that they removes both of them and also a note that the 1.25 bios needs EC 1.05 or higher.

Although, I don't have any problem ( at least not that I am aware of), does using bios 1.25 with ec 1.05 can cause problems / damage the tp?

What do you suggest me to do?

Thank you

I don't know, but I'm in the same boat and I bet a lot of others are as well. No problems here, either.

I got both updates, but the EC update gave me an hour of panic. After starting the installation, with all the warnings as to keeping the power on, etc. the system just hung with a message about reading file values, or similar. After 3/4 of an hour I decided that I had to bite the bullet or go to bed! Re-booted, expecting the worst, and all was OK. Re-did the EC installation and it loaded within a few seconds.

Perhaps they have removed 1.05 because others have had similar problems? I don't know. All seems OK (says he, with a deep sense of foreboding...)

For mine, the BIOS updated first (despite saying it required the new EC update). Then EC updated.

All seems fine.

Actually I miswrote. It has to be "does using bios 1.25 with "ec 1.04" can cause problems / damage the tp? "

because acually my bios is 1.25 and ec 1.04 and as they removed the updates. I can't update it...

I am in the same boat... I never got the chance to update the EC, but I have the 1.25 bios. Everything seems to be working so far...

I had exactly the same experience as Nick Y.
