Transflective display?

#1 Post by noetus » Thu Feb 23, 2006 4:59 am

When will we see a transflective TFT display on a Thinkpad? Are these things being planned?

It's unlikely for T series since it's targeted at business users. Z series might have a chance to get it someday.

When you use a T40 SXGA screen, turn down to light as much as possible and point the screen into bright sunlight -> Voilá, you can perfectly read and type.

If you try to do this with older screens (e.g. T20-T23 series), no chance, you hardly recognize anything.

So, in other words, the new SXGA screens are in a high degree transflective. If they would exchange the background reflecting metal with silver, you would get a whiter image.

Anyway, you can reach endless working hours in bright sunlight, when you completely turn down the background light. That was my question before: how to completely turn off the background light??!

Anyone know the ACPI bit to set?

Hi,
same on the T43p UXGA I use, but the screen (which is absolute cool at normal indoor use) gets quite hot that way. I think its cause the most of the light is not reflected but heats up the TFT.
Does anyone know whether this has a serious impact to screen life / performance?
Thanks, Carlhermann
