New T42 radio needed massage.

Few days ago I finally received my brand new T42 that I bought on Ebay. Altough this is my fourth tp, I was excited.

I think I got a fairlyy good price for a 1.7 GHz with 1GB, 15" 1400x1050 system, 7200rpm 60GB disk, at $1485 with shipping.

After turning it on and completing preloaded imaging, I immediately realized that the radio (2200bg) wasn't working. No signal reported and that was it. That was kind of a bummer news but I kept working on it as I neded it to work anyway and figured I would look at the radio later.

After doing the NTFS conversion (amazing default is FAT32), sorted out of a painful problem in which applying a bunch of updates at once slowed down the machine to 160Mhz, and other things, the machine was doing just good except the radio, so I pulled keyboard and palmrest, reseated the radio in the slot and the antenna wires, and ZOOM, got 100% signal.

Then to make Bluetooth work I had to install SP2 that apparently slowed boot quite a bit however the performance seems better than the 1.7 t40 that I had before. The keyboard is excellent, not sure the maufacturer (forgot to look) but is exactly how you expext it to be unlike the one I got with the t40.

Overall I'm very satisfayed with the machine. Lenovo has already sent me the recovery disks (they even paid import taxes for) at no charge and every single feature seems to work perfectly.

I could use one, too, more so than my mini-PCI card.
