Spilled water on PS can I let it air dry and reuse it?

#1 Post by koolzero » Fri Feb 24, 2006 8:23 am

I knocked over a glass of water in my sleep last night and it spilled all over the floor and on my power supply. Luckily my laptop wasn't plugged in or I would probably be replacing it.

When it happened the power supply was plugged in to the electrical outlet; I'm lucky I didn't burn the house down...

When I woke up this morning and realized what I had done I unplugged it and I haven't used it since. Would you think it would be alright to try plugging it into the laptop or should I not use it and just get it replaced ASAP?

I've used some compressed air around the edges of the power adapter and some water has come off of it and there was some water inside the black electric cord (the end that goes into the power brick)...

My power supply (T40) seems to be well insulated, almost one molded piece. The A/C plug is even recessed into it, so I doubt that any water actually got inside.
Just to be sure, I'd put a VOM on the laptop end and measure the voltage.
But if you don't smell any electrical burning, which is quite pervasive, you should be alright.
