Cost of replacing systemboard on t42

#1 Post by Zaytoon » Sat Feb 25, 2006 5:57 am

I have a t42 - type 2374

my laptop was in my bag behind the passenger seat of my car. it was not switched off, as i as in a hurry to leave the office. so i just logged off. while driving i was drinking a milkshake and place it in athe cup holder between the driver and passenger seat. anyway some person knocks me from behind , not realise the traffic had come to a standstill. milkshake fell over on to laptop ... and so on. i tried to get the excess liquid off the laptop and left it to dry. i switch it on the following day, the battery ligts come on , the fans starts up, but not the screen and harddrive.

what do you think the problem is? someone said it could be the motherboard. i onlt get to work in two days time. what is the cost of the motherboard?

Personally, I would take the unit apart ASAP, and start dunking things in the purest isoprophyl alcohol (70-90%, rubbing alcohol) you can find to clean them off. It might still be salvagable.

You want to stay away from plain water, soaps etc because of residues they can leave behind. Alcohol is pretty good for this type of thing. There is a good chance liquid is still inside the machine. Also, REMOVE THE BATTERY!
