TV in on T42
TV in on T42
hello all,
is it possible to run TV in to the T42. I noted the Svideo out that I have, are there any adapters out there that will allow me to plug my xbox360 into the T42? Saves room in a tv!
thanks,
~Franchesca

No, the S-video is output only.
T440s OK so far.
T420s NVIDIA graphics. Nice, then MB failure.
T400s Workhorse. two of'em, both faulty display with vertical stripes.
T43 °very nice° - MB reflown and dead, two of'em.
T42 15°, dead onboard wireless.
T40, dead memory slot, stolen from me
T30, stolen from me
TP600 dead

I have the Avermedia PCMCIA that has S-Video input as well as a TV tuner (for both analog and digital TV) and an FM radio. It also has timers so you can record programs while you're away from the computer, etc. It seems pretty good. You can pick them up on eBay for $80-$100, though they seem to be sold mostly in Australia (mine was shipped from Australia without any problems). It has settings for gaming inputs, as well.
I am using a T42, and I was wondering if that card slot on the left of the notebook is infact a PCMCIA slot. I looked in the manual and that is the only slot not labeled.
And if it is, I dont have a great video card (64mb Radeon 9600), so if I am running something like Morrowind Oblivion off an xbox360 and that card, am I going to get horrible lag? Will it even run...

The bottom slot is a PCMCIA slot; the top one is an Express Card slot.
And I am not sure what you mean by "I dont have a video card"

I don't know as I haven't tried that, but if the XBox 360 does all the processing and you have a fast enough card to have the data go through, it should be able to yield some decent framerates.
After all, a TV doesn't have a video card in it to do any post-rendering.
(Maybe there is one TV like that out there

The T42 has a slot on the left side that accepts (2) type II Cardbus 32-bit PC cards or (1) type III Cardbus 32-bit PC card. I know, I have one.christopher_wolf wrote:The bottom slot is a PCMCIA slot; the top one is an Express Card slot.![]()

The T43 does in fact have one PC card slot and one Express Card slot in the same location.
katonia56 did not say they did not have a video card, what was said was: "I dont have a great video card (64mb Radeon 9600)".
Actually the 64mb Radeon 9600 card is a pretty decent card IMHO. If you need more graphics power, then I believe an Alienware or Voodoo notebook are in order. The only way I think I've heard of upgrading the video in a ThinkPad is by using a dock and putting a video card in the dock.
