T43 ATI Radeon X300
T43 ATI Radeon X300
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum...
Just got a new TP T43 with an ATI Radeon X300 video card running XP Pro SP2.
Does anyone out there know how to increase the screen resolution to 1280 x 1024 so that the screen doesn't pan from side to side.
In other words, I want to increase the screen resolution in such a way that all of the content is visible on the screen. I had a TP T41 running an ATI RADEON 9000 on Win 2K pro and was able to increase the screen resolution to 1280 x 1024 successfully.
With the T43 on XP pro SP2, I haven't been able to figure out how to do this (increase screen resolution so that all the content still remains on the screen and doesn't require you to move the mouse to the edge to pan the contents into view).
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums
Do you have a 14.1" T43 Thinkpad with XGA? If so, I am afraid that 1024x768 is the highest you can natively display, any more and you will start scrolling around the desktop.
SXGA+ can support 1400x1050 on a 14.1" screen natively.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Interesting. I have the ATI 9000, and all I can seem to get is XGA resolution - 1024 X 768. I don't really want anymore, but I wonder how you increased yours, unless you did not use the IBM supplied drivers.
Regarding your problem, have you turned on HV Expansion in the BIOS? Another thing, try this: Go to Display Properties > Advanced > Displays > Panel > Scale image to panel size.

you likely had the SXGA+ screen in the T41. that one can go to 1400x1050 - the XGA screen can only go to 1024x768. If you want more, you need a new screen and cable assembly.
edit: in fact, you could just swap the two screens between the machines.

in the world of 14.1 inch screens
SXGA > XGA!
I know some people don't buy the SXGA on purpose because the say the resolution is painful for the eyes. But I can downscale to 1280 x 1024 and use cleartype and I can see pretty good. Usually I'm in the 1450 X 1020 mode which doesnt bother me.
But XGA screens can't go above 1024 x 768. If you have that option to go above that then its only because the computer assumes you are hooked up to an external LCD. My toshiba satellite 1955 s300 did that.
The most you can do is upgrade the LCD flat panel to SXGA if you got a 14incher or UXGA if you got a 15incher. They are usually on ebay for $300 - $500+.

I see no reason why not.
The T43 X300s all have the same motherboard...and mine (the top of the line T43) has the 1400x1050 panel.
But, I've never swapped LCDs...BrentPresley has though.
You might want to fire a PM at him to see what he had to do.

Did you upgrade from vga to svga?
Actually, I did once to replace my vga lcd panel with a svga lcd panel, but failed...
see: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... -58317#vid
In section:
"64 MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300 and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900\300 with 1024 x 768 TFT display color depth chart" it does not support 1400x1050.
Well, if someone knows how to get a 1400x1050 resolution by only buying a svga lcd panel,m please post it here!

The way I read that, it was saying that XGA models don't do 1400x1050.
Which we know. It doesn't say you can't swap panels out though. Just that those models with that LCD don't support that resolution natively or externally.
And: VGA = 640x480. SVGA = 800x600. XGA = 1024x768. SXGA = 1280x1024 (not sure why...it's the only 5:4. It should be 1280x960, but no one ever uses that resolution). SXGA+ = 1400x1050. UXGA = 1600x1200.
